Methodology

Just laugh, have fun and the learning will happen!

Eclectic! That’s it!

For those of you who can’t read for long due to extreme boredom, in summary :

Eclectic/eccentric/silly/varied

I like to use all sorts to stimulate your mind and memory. Using the same technique for every point is too boring for me.

For those of you that like to know a bit more…

I have read over the years about different techniques that help people better learn foreign languages. I have observed different styles of teaching and tried out different methods myself in my teaching. I have also been on the side of the learner, which has possibly given me the most valuable insights.

Personally I am easily bored when it comes to learning information. When I have embarked on learning a foreign language I preferred to work from several different resources to avoid becoming bored. This is not to say that you should go out and buy a million resources. Everyone is very different. In fact, there is enough free stuff on the world-wide-web to help you to learn a language to a fluent level. So it’s not a lack of resources or money that poses a problem. Not surprisingly it can be a lack of time but actually I strongly suspect it boils down to a lack of motivation. If you love what you are learning you will not only find the time you will spill over into the time you were supposed to be spending doing other exciting stuff like scratching your arse.

Therefore, I hope to combine a multitude of methodologies to motivate you to keep learning French. Personally, I love how Michel Thomas taught but I know a lot of people that just can’t bear to listen to the recordings. So I will use his style but with more engaging content (hopefully it will be for some of you!). I will be producing silly surreal videos in order to appeal to your cheeky side. We will be studying songs, films, biographies and watching interviews all of which will hopefully make you starving for more. In particular we will be looking at slang to actually enable you to understand the French you will come across which will include a healthy dose of fruity/raunchy French. By this point you will be aching to learn some of the building blocks behind the mystery that learning a language can be and consequently you will be enlightened and deeply pleasured with some good old-fashioned grammar – sitting there, smiling, on the top of old Maslow’s pyramid – in French Zen.

More camembert anyone?

More camembert anyone?

Let’s learn some real French…
